This is the city of cultural events and there is something for everyone. Concerts of Colombian and Caribbean music, classical music, champeta, vallenato and jazz. We also intensely experience the independence festivities, the gastronomic festivals with their typical sweets and fried food contests. We watch movies under the stars and closely follow the literary debates during the Mapfre Hay Festival. In a typical year in Cartagena these events are organized:
JANUARY: International Music Festival.
FEBRUARY: Mapfre Hay Festival.
MARCH: Cartagena International Film Festival. Ibero-American Theater Festival.
MAY: "Much More May" in agreement with the municipality of Cartagena, Murcia.
JUNE: Birthday of Cartagena.
JULY: Great National Bicentennial Concert and Festival of the Big Hammock.
AUGUST: Champeta Afro-American Music Festival.
OCTOBER: Book Fair.
NOVEMBER: Fiestas de la Independencia, and National Reign of Beauty.
DECEMBER: Caribbean Cultural Market, Jazz Festival, New Year's Eve Party and Caribbean Market and Gastronomic Festival.
